Its hard to believe that our baby girl is four weeks old.  On Super Bowl Sunday Carson will be a whole month old!! Check back soon for a 1 month update.

This week was interesting for all of us.  The week started with Melissa not feeling well and my first week back to work, away from my girls.  On Wednesday the snow started; thundersnow.  At around 7:30, I was finishing up work I had brought home while Melissa and Carson were watching the Caps game.  We had heard there were power outages due to the storm and just as Melissa turned to me and said "that's all we need is the power to go out" the lights flickered and the house went dark.  We headed to bed with the hope that the power would be restored as we slept.
During the night we brought Carson into bed with us to keep her warm.  The three of us (plus Benji) snugged through the night and managed to get a fairly decent night's sleep.  We woke in the morning to a cold house.  The power hadn't come back on during the night as we hoped.  There was no way I could go to work and leave my family at home in the cold, plus I wouldn't had been able to get out of my drive way.
The thermostat read 53 degrees.  Our king size bed was the warmest spot in the house.  Carson, Melissa, and Benji stayed cuddled up in bed during most of the morning while I was out shoveling.  After 20 hours of no power and with no hope in sight, we made the decision to spend the rest of the day, and maybe night, at my parent's house.
During our time at my parent's warm home we had heard that Pepco wasn't expected to restore power to the area until 11 Friday night.  Just as we began to make plans for the dogs, Pepco's website update to say power was to be restored by 9pm Thursday! Finally a light at the end of the powerless tunnel. 
Sure enough at 9pm the power came back on. It had been a long, cold 25 hours.  What a way to spend Carson's three week birthday.   - Jim
